Energy supplier Scottish & Southern teams up with PCL

Energy supplier Scottish & Southern has teamed up with PCL, expert in tyre inflation equipment, to provide its staff with a vital gift to keep them safe on the roads.

As the latest project in its on-going health & safety initiative, Scottish & Southern decided to target tyre maintenance, which if neglected can cause serious, even fatal accidents.

PCL was asked to supply 17,500 pencil-style tyre pressure gauges along with tyre trade depth gauges, which Scottish & Southern gave to employees in a company wallet enclosing a safety leaflet. The response was so great that a further 2,000 of each gauge were supplied to cover the extra unexpected demand.

PCL’s reliable TPG3 is designed to British Standards and has an angled head which is suitable for both car and commercial vehicles. The TDG16 is also a handy, lightweight piece of equipment with a pocket clip. It complies with EC Directives, is easy to read and is accepted by the Department of Transport for MoT testing.

Scottish & Southern staff can simply pop the wallet in their cars and consult the safety leaflet to ensure their tyres are inflated correctly and that tread depth is above the minimum legal limit of 1.6mm.

The UK Department for Transport constantly strives to ensure drivers are aware that it is both illegal and dangerous to drive with over or under-inflated tyres, or with tyres with tread below 1.6mm.

All too few drivers know that tyre pressure should be checked very two weeks and that good tyres have a positive affect on steering, braking, acceleration and fuel economy. However, poor tyre maintenance not only increases the risk of accidents but could also mean a heavy fine and penalty points.

PCL’s Marketing Manager, Matthew Butters, said: “We are committed to the design and manufacture of accurate tyre pressure and tyre tread depth gauges for maximum safety, so we were pleased to be part of Scottish & Southern’s health & safety initiative. The company is clearly interested in the welfare of its staff and tyre safety is an essential, but unfortunately all too often overlooked means of keeping drivers safe on the roads.”
